Environmental Data

Metadata

A selection of terms from the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative is included. While VALUE holds your data, LABEL and DEFINITION provide definitions.
Title and Description fields are mandatory and will be used in Germinate to describe the dataset.

Additional MIAPPE fields include: - Investigation Title / Description - Unique ID - Associated data file link / description / version

Attributes

Use attributes to describe additional information (e.g., pesticides, irrigation, fertilizers).
Each row must contain a single attribute of type: numeric, date, text, or categorical.

Location

(Optional) Link geographical sites to your dataset. Use a separate template copy for each site.

Collaborators

Specify contributors to the dataset.
First Name and Last Name are required fields.

Environment Variables

Characteristics are described here. Only Name and Data Type are mandatory.
Data Type must be one of: text, date, numeric, or categorical.

  • Short name and unit abbreviation must be ≤ 10 characters.

Data

Define your environmental data here:

  • Rows from A2 downward = germplasm entries

  • Use the ACCENUMB field for identification

  • Columns from D2 onward = traits (refer to Name column in Environment Variables)

  • Date field is mandatory (format YYYY-MM-DD)

  • Leave empty cells for missing data (NA, dashes, or other symbols are not allowed)

Genotypic Data

Two formats: - Excel template: recommended for small datasets - Plain text (tab-delimited): required for large datasets

Metadata

Same structure as above. Use Dublin Core and MIAPPE fields.

Germinate-specific fields: - Map Name - Marker Technology - Genetic / Physical - Map Units

Location

(Optional) Geographic site linked to the dataset.

Collaborators

List contributors (First and Last names required).

Data

  • Rows from A4 = germplasm (use ACCENUMB)
  • Columns from B3 = markers (identified by name)

Optional Map

Use rows 1–2 for map info. Leave empty if unused, but do not remove row labels (A1, A2).

Allele Calls

  • Start at cell B4
  • Use formats like A, T/A, G/C, A/B, or 0/1
  • One character = homozygous, two characters = heterozygous
  • Use empty cells for missing values

Plain Text Format
